Armed robbery suspect arrested

COLE BAY--Police have arrested a suspect in the case of the armed robbery of Yang Yang Supermarket on Well Road Sunday afternoon. A second suspect managed to evade capture. The case is still under investigation by the Special Robbery Unit.

A Simpson Bay Police patrol and a Zero-tolerance team were directed by the Police Central Dispatch to the supermarket around 2:00pm to investigate.

However, according to a police report, after the robbery the suspects took off on foot through the neighbourhood.

The two suspects were said to be armed with a handgun and a machete. One of the robbery victims was hit on his head with the butt of the gun by the gun-toting robber.

Descriptions of the suspects were given to the patrols and during a search of the area, a man was spotted coming out of the bushes. The man with initials R.F.A.Y. of St. Maarten matched the description of one of the suspects and was arrested on the spot.

Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said R.F.A.Y. denied having been involved in the robbery but police searched the bushes where the suspect was arrested and they found a machete and clothing used during the robbery.
