The country’s tallest Hindu statue erected in the eastern port city of Trincomalee is attracting large crowds as the count down for Thai Pongal festivities begins.

The 32 feet statue of the Hindu God Siva stands on the hill top at the Koneshwaran Temple close to the main Trincomalee town.

The statue was built by a Tamil Nadu architect and was unveiled on Monday. It is also visible from the town square.
